I want to use broadband
When is the network coming to my place?
The first release sites represent the diversity of situations NBN Co will encounter across Australia in the mass rollout, so sites have been selected that allow us to test different construction and design techniques.
The first release includes the areas:
- A part of the suburb of Brunswick in Melbourne
- An area of Townsville covering parts of the suburbs of Aitkenvale and Mundingburra
- The coastal communities of Minnamurra and Kiama Downs south of Wollongong
- An area of west Armidale, NSW, including the University of New England
- The rural town of Willunga in South Australia
For more information on rollout and coverage in your area, see our Maps section of the website.
The second release sites have also been selected, these sites comprise 14 new locations and five sites adjacent to existing first release sites.
The second release sites include:
- NSW - Riverstone (western Sydney), Coffs Harbour;
- Queensland - Brisbane (inner north), Springfield Lakes, Toowoomba;
- South Australia - Modbury, Prospect;
- Victoria - Bacchus Marsh, South Morang (Melbourne);
- Western Australia - Victoria Park (Perth), Geraldton, Mandurah;
- Northern Territory - Casuarina;
- ACT - Gungahlin
The five existing locations getting an additional, adjacent rollout site are Minnamurra/Kiama Downs (Kiama) and Armidale in NSW, Townsville Qld, Brunswick in Melbourne, and Willunga in South Australia.
For more information on rollout and coverage in your area, see our Maps section of the website.
What does the network look like?
The NBN is being constructed using both underground and overhead options. It will depend on where you live as to whether you will have an underground or overhead network connected in your street. For more information on what the network will look like see; what the network will look like in your street
How much will it cost to connect to the NBN?
The network will enable Service Providers to offer products to Australian and households using the high speed broadband network. When the network is 'live', it will be up to the Service Providers to market to and liaise directly with the Australian public.
How do I get connected?
We have prepared information for home and business owners regarding connection to the NBN when the rollout occurs in your area. This includes what the installation equipment looks like, how we plan to install and tips for maintaining the service equipment. We plan to work with retail service providers, who will be the primary contact for householders and business, to provide more information as the network is built.
For more information please download the NBN User Guide and Preparing for the NBN documents located in the documents section of this page.
