NBN Co's pricing approach

NBN Co has developed the pricing of our product set with the following objectives in mind:

• Uniform national wholesale access pricing.
• Foster competition and innovation by offering access to qualifying Service Providers, regardless of their size.
• Provide simplicity, while offering the flexibility required by Service Providers to differentiate their retail offerings in the market.
• Deliver a wholesale service that will provide an appropriate return to NBN Co’s shareholders, the Government and the Australian tax payer.

To meet these pricing objectives, our pricing is harmonised across the entry level product for the three technologies used to roll out the NBN: fibre, wireless and satellite. Uniform national wholesale access pricing across all geographic areas is supported by an entry-level product tier with pricing and specifications independent of the technology platform over which it is delivered.

Our pricing of the entry-level product tier is designed to facilitate the migration to the NBN. Service Providers can build products that upgrade to higher speeds, higher availability and a wider range of business features, such as traffic class options and a broad range of retail products for the small business and enterprise market.

Apart from geographic uniformity and flexibility, NBN Co’s underpinning philosophy for both product and pricing structure has been to deliver simplicity for Service Providers and limit back-office complexity for NBN Co. Complex pricing introduces cost, hence, pricing simplicity supports our objective to service our partners with a minimum of overhead costs.
