Transit Network and Points of Interconnect
NBN Co is constructing the Transit Network which is an important part of providing a connection to the fibre, fixed wireless or satellite services to be within the reach of every household and business in Australia. The first release consists of 155 Fibre Access Nodes and includes the first 30 Points of Interconnect - this is where NBN Co hands over traffic from its network to service providers.
The initial release activity will occur across all of the Australian states, incorporating 23 transmission rings. These rings provide greater resiliency, ensuring that if a single link in a loop is cut then services remain in operation. The Transit Network provides connections from the Fibre Access Nodes to the Points of Interconnect, and completes the network management layer back to the Network Operations Centre. It will continue to grow in a number of further releases, with a target build completion date for the full Transit Network and Points of Interconnects in early 2015.
A full list of the Points of Interconnect can be found on the ACCC website
