nbn Glow Up: Family overhauls home internet set up

The Purcell family knew their home internet should be better, but life was just too busy to learn how they could fix it.

As the mother of three digital natives who runs the successful SNDYS fashion label from home, Melanie Purcell always knew her home nbn® connection could – and should – be better.

Video calls would freeze and drop out, streaming would buffer frequently, and downloads were painfully slow.

She wanted to fix it, but didn’t know where to start and didn’t have time to investigate.

That was until a friend shared a link to nbn’s tips on how to optimise the way her in-home equipment was set up.

Watch to learn how the Purcells unlocked the potential of their nbn connection with fast, easy and affordable steps that anyone can follow.*

nbn’s top tips to optimise your in-home set up

  • Check the age of your Wi-Fi router and ask your tech retailer or service provider about an update.
  • Place your router in a high, central location away from interference, such as brick walls, fridges or even fish tanks.
  • Consider whether you’d benefit from a Wi-Fi mesh system to extend signal throughout your home.
  • Check whether your current speed plan still meets your household’s needs.
  • Check your address to see whether you’re eligible for an nbn fibre upgrade.
  • Plug fixed devices, like TVs and computers, directly into your router (where possible).
  • Check the age of your connected devices, as those that use older Wi-Fi technology may not support higher speeds.

* nbn is very happy with the Purcells' experience with the nbn® network. Of course, experiences may vary. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn® network depends on the nbn® access network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside nbn’s control like equipment quality, software, broadband plan, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network.
