Ellie Sweeney has officially commenced her role as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at NBN Co, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the company.
Ms Sweeney brings a wealth of experience and deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape. Ms Sweeney will continue to deliver on nbn’s ambition to ensure that homes and businesses have access to world-class broadband – empowering people; delivering for customers, partnering with our valued stakeholders; and continuing to foster a strong company culture at nbn.
Ellie Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at NBN Co, said:
“It is an enormous privilege to lead an organisation that plays such a pivotal role in shaping Australia’s future. My vision for our future is rooted in the conviction that by expanding and enhancing our digital infrastructure and technology, we can drive meaningful change and ensure that all Australians can thrive.
“Over 20 million Australians utilise the nbn® network on a daily basis. We have seen the average Australian household consume 10 times more data per month than it did 10 years ago, and we know that data consumption is expected to double every five years. It is a pivotal time for nbn as it continues to deliver significant network investments that are driving social and economic benefits for the nation, including the contribution of $122 billion in GDP between 2012 and 2022. And by 2030, the nbn network is forecast to add up to $399 billion to the size of the Australian economy, worth around $68bn (or 2.7 per cent of GDP), 113,000 jobs and enable more than 55,000 additional businesses.
“Our company’s purpose – to lift the digital capability of Australia – is compelling. The network we’ve built and continue to enhance is critical infrastructure in today’s digitally connected world. It matters deeply to the nation’s progress and prosperity.
“We’re not just building and maintaining infrastructure; we’re building Australia’s future. By continuing to expand, enhance and innovate, we can drive meaningful progress and make a fundamental difference to the social and economic fabric of Australia.
“I want to sincerely thank Philip Knox for his exceptional leadership as Interim Chief Executive Officer, guiding the company seamlessly during this transition and ensuring continued momentum. I look forward to his continued support, returning to his role as our Chief Financial Officer.”
Ms Sweeney joins nbn at a time of significant momentum. The company is advancing major initiatives to deliver faster broadband speeds, enhance connectivity across the country and continue to evolve the network to meet Australia’s evolving digital needs and allow communities to thrive.
