nbn fibre upgrades to create one thousand new jobs nationally with delivery partners

20 April 2023

NBN Co today announced that the rollout of its national fibre upgrades will enable nbn’s delivery partners to provide more than 1,000 new job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas across Australia over the next two-and-a-half years.

The company also estimates that the Australian Government’s $2.4 billion investment could generate a GDP uplift of up to $20 billion by 2030.

NBN Co’s network upgrades will enable full-fibre access to 3.5 million eligible  premises currently served by Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and up to 1.5 million eligible1 premises served by Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) by the end of 2025. Those premises will be able to access the fastest residential and most reliable technology available through the nbn® network.

Working directly for nbn’s current delivery partners, individual workers and construction businesses would be involved in new civil works covering almost 7,000 km to help roll out more than 65,000 km of optical fibre across Australia, which is nearly one-and-a-half times the circumference of the Earth.

A range of specialisations continue to be needed including drill operators, civil construction workers, fibre haulers and splicers, general labourers and vacuum truck operators.

With a variety of roles required, appropriate training will be provided by nbn’s delivery partners, which could take between one to three months depending on the specific role, skill level and accreditation.

Individuals and construction businesses who want to be part of enhancing the nbn network can express their interest with nbn’s delivery partners, listed below.

Dion Ljubanovic, NBN Co Executive General Manager – Build, said:

“To help upgrade the nbn network over the coming years, nbn’s delivery partners will have the opportunity to further employ, develop and grow businesses and provide new roles to more people Australia-wide.

“In addition to enabling the creation of new roles in our cities, this important national infrastructure upgrade will aid the delivery of further jobs and an economic boost, with an important money multiplier effect to regional areas.

“With ongoing construction activities bringing fibre deeper to more than 800 suburbs across Australia right now, delivery partners continue to take expressions of interest from individuals and businesses across the nation as further communities are added to the upgrade program.

“The work is ideal for seasoned professionals, those wanting to return to the field, school leavers and people looking to learn new skills that will help set them up for a rewarding career in telecommunications and infrastructure development.

“We are enabling incredible opportunities for people who want to be involved in meaningful work that will help to lift the digital capability of Australia so that communities, households and businesses can thrive.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: Conditions apply. Eligibility criteria includes among other things, being designated by nbn as a simple premises and placing an order for an nbn powered plan based on an eligible wholesale speed tier.
