1. Check if your building is eligible and register online
Eligible buildings
If your building is eligible, and you’re an authorised representative for your entire building (via a Body Corporate or through ownership of the entire building), you can submit a request for nbn to install full fibre in your building. Once registered, we will use the information provided to further assess your eligibility, and for any quotes required.
Ineligible buildings
If your building isn't eligible, you can still register your building for updates and we will let you know when your building becomes eligible.
2. Quote and agreement
If your building is eligible and you have already submitted a request, the nbn Sales team will be in contact to confirm the Build Quote and Terms and Conditions - (Area Switch for Full Fibre Upgrade for Strata) Agreement. This will need to be signed by the Authorised Representative of the Owner's Committee/Owner of the entire building.
nbn covers a significant portion of the fibre installation as part of our network investment plan, however a customer co-contribution is also required. The customer co-contribution cost starts at $275 (inc GST) per individual unit/apartment.
Any increase to the customer co-contribution is determined after an nbn construction partner has visited the site and determined the exact cost of the installation. Any costs above the nbn subsidy will be passed onto the customer, in addition to the starting cost of $275 (inc GST) per individual unit/apartment.
Reasons for an increased cost may include (but are not limited to):
- smaller buildings (approximately 8 premises or less);
- low rise buildings/complexes;
- heritage buildings; and
- commercial buildings;
- buildings that necessitate more complex or costly installation methods or materials; or
- buildings with access restrictions.
If there are any additional costs, a nbn representative will discuss this with your building's authorised representative once the installation plan and pricing is confirmed. You may choose to decline the fibre upgrade without incurring any penalties if you do not agree to the additional costs.
3. Site Survey and Installation Plan
4. Installation
Once the installation plan is agreed, an nbn approved construction partner will be engaged to start construction activities. The approved construction partner will contact the designated site contact to advise a suitable date/time to attend site and start construction.
5. Ready to Connect
Once physical construction is complete, nbn will conduct quality and safety checks of the cabling and equipment before activating the nbn equipment onsite. The amount of time needed for this activity will be dependent on the size of the building and the number of units/apartments.
Upon completion, an nbn representative will reach out to your building’s authorised representative to confirm residents can now place orders with their chosen internet provider to upgrade onto the fibre infrastructure.
