Food, flora and fast broadband: The nbn™ network rolls into Malmsbury

As the nbn™ network starts to roll into Malmsbury, we shine the spotlight on the town best known for its extensive history and breathtaking greenery.

Towns and cities all across Australia are beginning to connect to the nbn™ network, so we’re celebrating the historic moments, landmarks or features that put each area on the map.

From a long history to a smorgasbord of local produce and picturesque gardens, Malmsbury is “where art is a way of life”. It is a thriving community that brings everyone of all ages together.

Malmsbury’s rich history is evident in the town’s buildings, railway and churches.

The town, originally established as a service centre for workers heading to the goldfields, was built from local bluestone deposits, much of which is still evident today.

Exploring the town’s landscape and landmarks is an always-available pastime for locals. Residents can not only enjoy a history lesson, but also a peaceful day in the Botanic Gardens.

Pack a picnic and enjoy the lush greenery in the gardens while lying under the trees in Malmsbury’s backyard.

If you’re looking for an afternoon wandering through art galleries, Tin Shed Arts and Woodbine Art Gallery showcase a range of breathtaking art and sculptures.

Outdoor activities are also aplenty. Locals can spend their time sailing away on the reservoir, cruising down Glenlyon Mineral Springs or strolling through the breathtaking Macedon Ranges.

The bushland is home to eucalyptus and spring wildflowers as well as to some native Australian wildlife such as kangaroos, birds, echidnas and wallabies.

After a walk, residents can tickle their tastebuds with some of the best drops Malmsbury has to offer. Birthday Villa, Tarrangower Estate and Fontanella Wines are well-known vineyards worth popping into for an afternoon.

There’s never a dull moment in this Victorian town and now that the nbn™ network is rolling out, residents will be able to share these moments with friends and family all over the world.

In our next series we travel to Brookfield. Check out our On the Map homepage for more.
