nbn facilities access

The facilities access service supports the physical connection of optical fibre backhaul cables between your network and the nbn® network at each of the 121 Points of Interconnection (POI).

Once connected at each POI, you will be able to access your allocated Network-to-Network Interface (NNI), which in turn opens up connectivity to customers in the Connectivity Serving Area (CSA) associated with that POI.

How does the service work?

When connecting to an nbn® service, backhaul is always connected to the NNI via the facilities access service at the POI. You may choose to connect directly at the POI, or through a backhaul provider. The service enables the physical fibre connection, and provides a means to manage and maintain your backhaul connection, or that of a chosen provider.

The service is agnostic to the access technology (e.g. FTTP, Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster® satellite) used by the nbn® Ethernet Bitstream Service to access the premises.

There are four elements to support a network connection

  • nbn® Building Entry Service
  • nbn® ODF Termination Point
  • Cross Connect
  • nbn® Co-location
