Latest Update
14th March 2025, 13:00 AEDT
The number of services impacted across South East Queensland and Northern NSW due to the severe weather caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred has been reduced to approximately 24,000 – with around 23,000 in South East Queensland and 1,000 in Northern NSW.
Recovery efforts are progressing well, and we are working through complex recoveries in areas where the network has suffered damage. Our teams are working as quickly as they can to restore services as soon as possible. The health, safety, and well-being of our people, partners, and customers remain our top priority.
We encourage those who may still be experiencing outages to check the nbn network outages page and with their retail provider for specific information regarding their service. Our network outages page is updated regularly, so please continue to check for information specific to your location.
If no outage is detected, we recommend customers restart their nbn equipment, including the connection box and Wi-Fi router. This can help re-establish the connection. If there is still no connection, customers should contact their provider.
nbn has announced up to $7 million in Cyclone Relief Funding for Retail Service Providers, which can then be used to provide financial support to those whose nbn services have been impacted by the severe weather caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Our thoughts are with the communities impacted across South East Queensland and Northern NSW as they recover from this event.

Our team continues to support local authorities across the impacted area by mobilising field workforce and deploying temporary network infrastructure, as well as other assets such as generators, to maintain the operation of the nbn network wherever possible and safe.
The health, safety, and wellbeing of our people, partners, and customers remain our top priority.

Ahead of forecasted heavy rain, potential flooding and high winds due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred, we are mobilising field workforce and temporary network infrastructure to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane and Northern NSW.
The health, safety, and wellbeing of our people, partners, and customers is our top priority.
During an emergency, the majority of outages on the nbn network are caused by power outages. Equipment connected via the nbn network will not work during a power outage.
Equipment, such as generators and devices capable of powering fibre nodes and fixed wireless towers, is being prepared to maintain and restore connectivity in the event of power loss. Additionally, multi-tech trailers, satellite trucks, and portable satellite kits are being readied. We have also activated Disaster Satellite Services across the impacted areas for use by local authorities.
nbn technicians are also being made available from Central and North QLD, and northern NSW to respond to any network damage.
In emergencies where physical equipment damage occurs to the power or telecommunications infrastructure, nbn network connectivity may be lost.
To prepare for where nbn connectivity may be lost – customers and communities can take the following steps:
1. Stay mobile: Put together an emergency kit with a charged mobile phone and a portable mobile battery pack on hand. This can help if you experience a power outage, or if your nbn network connection is disrupted in an emergency. Consider turning off your mobile data on unnecessary apps to save battery.
2. Stay updated: Local radio is a good source of information during an emergency, so include a battery powered radio in your emergency communications kit. It’s also worth following emergency services on social and news channels. These may include your State Fire and Rescue, Police Services and utilities like nbn (@NBN_Australia).
3. Back up (as covered above): Make sure you can access important information and essential documents from anywhere – this could mean creating a digital back-up on a USB, or in the cloud. These key pieces of information may include insurance policies and/or financial documents.
4. Alternative options: For businesses or other community groups, you might want to consider investing in alternative communication and power options to keep your business or community group operating. It’s also important that you regularly test these back-up options to ensure they work when an emergency arises.
