Building Australia’s regional future

2-minute read

nbn has been successful in eighteen new co-funded projects under Round Three of the Regional Connectivity Program.

More than 10,000 homes and business spanning 38 locations across regional Australia will benefit from better nbn connectivity through co-funded projects announced under Round Three of the Australian Government’s Regional Connectivity Program (RCP).

Total project funding of more than $65 million has been allocated to 18 separate projects, with nbn contributing more than $15 million towards the projects. Eleven of the projects also received financial support from state and territory governments.

First Nations communities to benefit

Seven of the projects awarded to nbn are targeted specifically at improving connectivity in twelve First Nations communities.

For the first time, these communities in the Torres Strait, North Queensland and the Northern Territory will be able to access nbn Fixed Wireless services.

These projects are part of nbn’s commitment to achieving Target 17 of the Closing the Gap initiative, which commits to First Nations people having equal levels of digital inclusion by 2026.

Delivering better broadband to regional Australia

The 18 co-funded projects are among those included in a nation-wide upgrade program to the nbn® network that will deliver better broadband for homes and businesses across regional and remote Australia to enable communities and businesses to access essential online services, use new business tools, and connect with the digital economy.

nbn is currently delivering projects under Round One and Round Two of the Regional Connectivity Program, with 8 projects completed and more to come in early 2024.

Across regional Australia, nbn is also delivering full fibre upgrades via nbn® Fibre to the Premises, expanding the speed and reach of the Fixed Wireless network, and making uncapped data usage – subject to fair use policy and shaping – available on Sky Muster services.
